Hello Friends. Welcome to the Osa Mariposa homepage. We are a small hostel located in the “Brisas de Zicatela” neighborhood of Puerto Escondido, southwestern coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. Puerto Escondido and Playa Zicatela are home to the “Mexican Pipeline”, one of the top 10 surf breaks in the world, and a wealth of natural and cultural beauty.

The hotelito sits less than 100 meters from the Zicatela beach about halfway between the center of town and “The Point”. We offer simple and comfortable cabins, both dormitory and private style, tranquil garden/common area, delicious and affordable vegetarian food, and our bar specializes in local Mezcal varieties (an alcohol similar to Tequila , also derived from the agave plant).

Osa Mariposa can be reached from central Puerto Escondido in about 5 minutes by taxi or bus (camioneta) or a nice 20 minute walk down the beach. From the hostel you’ll have access to the restaurants, clubs, and shops of old Puerto Escondido (“El Adoquin”) as well as those of the Zicatela Beach and the quiet, shady neighborhood down by the Point. The town of Puerto Escondido is the perfect home base for exploring the mountains, rivers, hot springs, virgin white and black sand beaches, lagoons, nature reserves, and indigenous villages that surround it.

Since we are a new hostel some of the taxi and bus drivers don't know where we are located. If you plan on visiting the OSA MARIPOSA we suggest you copy down these directions to show to a driver. The hotel is about 7 minutes down the highway from the ADO/OCC terminal.

For domestic and international air travel please visit the Puerto Escondido International Airport website. Most flights are routed through Mexico City. (Mexico City to Puerto Escondido = roughly 50 minutes) Flights are also available from Oaxaca City and Acapulco. From the bus station or airport tell your taxi driver to take you to la OSA MARIPOSA in Brisas de Zicatela or take the covered truck (collective taxi) that passes down the Carretera Costera (Coast Highway 200) and get off at Alejandro Cardenas Peralta and follow your map or ask for directions.
